BBNW Trainee Spotlight: Justin Wolverton, Noyes Development

Share

In this article, we feature Justin Wolverton, quality assurance director of Noyes Development Co., a high-performance homebuilder who builds approximately 50 – 60 homes per year.

Justin completed the Sustainable Homes Professional (SHP) training in 2017, and presented at the SHP Project Showcase live webinar earlier this month. He shared how SHP has influenced Noyes’ building practices and helped find the most cost effective way to take their most difficult house from Earth Advantage Platinum to Zero Energy Ready (ZER). Now, Noyes Development builds to the ZER certification as their standard and most of their team members have earned the SHP designation.

"SHP has been huge for getting our team on the same page. Now that most of our employees are SHPs, our conversations and planning sessions are more lively and informed. The training transfers to our subs through our scope of work documents, trade walks, and our site managers holding our subs to the standards we’ve set. Our ACH50 results were within a few points of 2 a few years ago. Now they’re all within a few points of 1. We finished a 3500 sq. ft. house last month that came in at 0.73.”

During his SHP Showcase presentation, Justin also shared the many ways the course helped prepare him to thoughtfully and thoroughly communicate the benefits and inner workings of ZER homes to buyers. Check out Noyes’ short marketing video and a complete video series of homeowner tips. In addition to communicating the benefits of these homes, Justin also covers other key approaches to success such as being proactive, exceeding buyer expectations, and investing in referral sales.
