Sustainable Homes Professional in-person training finishes strong
Seventeen industry professionals participated in six Sustainable Homes Professional (SHP) modules to deepen their expertise in high-performance building design, mechanical systems, and sustainable materials—while applying these insights to real-world projects.
The small-group training—taught by industry experts and guest speakers who combined classroom learning with real-world applications—offered 45 continuing education credits and covered a comprehensive curriculum, such as building science fundamentals, high-performance wall and roof assemblies, HVAC system design, water conservation techniques, and indoor air quality considerations.

Participants benefited from insights into above-code building programs, cash incentives, tax credits, and practical tools.

Mountainwood Homes enrolled four key team members—field production manager, project developer, project manager, and warranty manager—in SHP. By training together, they gained a shared language and deeper collective understanding of high-performance building strategies.
"Collaboration! Discussing the material during and after the class as a group was key in implementing the protocols and practices into our scopes. With someone from each internal team, we can start incorporating our learnings into sales, then design, production, and even warranty.”

The in-person format fostered field-based learning, direct engagement with instructors, and valuable networking opportunities. Hands-on site visits with Noyes Development and Birdsmouth Design-Build further reinforced best practices in high-performance homebuilding. The training culminated in final project presentations, where participants applied their knowledge to real-world scenarios in their professional work.

Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with 100% of participants saying they would recommend the SHP in-person training. One participant said, “At first these practices seemed overwhelming, but this class showed me that even small changes can have a huge impact on efficiency. We’ve already started incorporating these materials and strategies into our projects, improving both our installation process and overall performance!”
