NEEP Cold Climate Air Source Heat Pump List

Industry professionals who work across utility territories and strive to help homeowners meet requirements for available tax credits and rebates may find it difficult to select the best heat pump system for a home.

The Northwest Energy Efficiency Partnership (NEEP) Cold Climate Air Source Heat Pump (ccASHP) list is a resource designed to help HVAC contractors, energy efficiency program administrators, engineers, and other professionals identify systems capable of performing in cold climates. The list includes heat pumps tested for consistent performance across a full winter season, identifying systems delivering better maximum capacity performance at 5°F and below. Systems included in this list are designed to minimize the need for supplemental heating sources to maintain resident comfort in the winter. The tool is based on NEEP's ccASHP Specification, which sets a higher bar than the minimum federal standard for performance in reliability in International Energy Conservation Code climate zones 4 and above.

NEEA and other partners contributed to NEEP's development and continued improvement of this searchable, filterable list that operates as a database that allows users to search by brand, model, product type, ducting configuration, and other criteria. Users can also download performance data sheets.

An especially useful feature is the ability to easily filter for systems that meet specific criteria such as ENERGY STAR®, ENERGY STAR Cold Climate, and the Consortium for Energy Efficiency tax credit criteria.

Two video resources are available to help users navigate the tool:
