Living Building Challenge

Available in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana

The Living Building Challenge (LBC) is a building certification program, advocacy tool and philosophy that defines the most advanced measure of sustainability in the built environment. The LBC contains seven performance categories called Petals: Place, Water, Energy, Health & Happiness, Materials, Equity and Beauty. Petals are subdivided into a total of twenty Imperatives that focus on details within each performance area. There are three pathways to certification: Living Building Certification, Petal Certification, and Net Zero Energy Certification. Projects of any scale or type can be eligible to register for the Living Building Challenge.

Built Green Washington

Built Green™ Washington is a nonprofit cooperative representing local Built Green programs throughout the state of Washington. Built Green programs encourage environmentally responsible building and construction by certifying homes that meet specific criteria.

National Green Building Standard

NGBS Green certification, based on the National Green Building Standard™ ICC/ASHRAE – 700, goes well beyond saying a home is energy efficient; it provides independent, third-party verification that a home, apartment building, or land development is designed and built to achieve high performance in six key areas.
